If you are working in the insurance or risk management profession in the Middle East or you are about to embark on a career in the industry, and you are looking to learn more, develop your potential and achieve higher goals by becoming professionally qualified, then this information is for you. GII is committed to provide region specific and internationally accredited qualifications through membership and to promote the highest standards of professional conduct in the industry.
Qualification through membershipGII offers three levels of membership that reflect your progress towards professional academic achievement; Candidate, Associate and Fellow. It also offers Affiliate membership to those professionals qualified through other bodies and who contribute towards the Institute’s academia. As a qualified member, you would be entitled to use the designations (AGII and FGII) bestowed by the Institute following successful completion of the required number of credits. GII promotes these designations across the region as benchmarks of professional and academic achievement by the holders. By displaying these designations you would be demonstrating your commitment to your profession to your present and prospective employers, your peers and your customers. As a member, your relationship with GII is embodied in the members’ charter which is a collective agreement between the Institute and it’s fully paid up members. This means that as long as you maintain your membership and comply with the code of conduct, the Institute will be contractually bound to provide you with the membership services in the Charter and you may use the designations that you have earned.
Associateship (AGII)An "Associateship" is an award conferred by an institute, college or university signifying that the recipient has satisfactorily completed a course of study. The GII Associateship, is in fact a course of study that you follow at your pace depending on your lifestyle and work commitments. At the end of this course of study, you can use the designation AGII in your professional and business life. The AGII designation demonstrates your commitment to learning and understanding the technicalities of your insurance job to your customers, your present and future employers and your peers. Having completed your studies and gained the designation gives you the confidence and the knowledge to deal with a wide range of insurance subjects. In order to gain the associateship, the current requirements is for a candidate to earn eight credits at Level 1 or Level 2. The most likely route to gaining the AGII would be to start with the Certificate in Insurance Principles and Practice (two Level 1 credits) and follow this with six Applied Insurance Studies Certificates. This combination would make the 8 level one credits required for the award of the AGII. In addition to gaining the eight Level 1 credits, you must also have at least one year practical experience in the insurance industry in insurance or related financial and risk management services sector in the Middle East and North Africa. The award must be confirmed by the Qualifications and Standards Council in accordance with “Fit and Proper” criteria established by it.
Fellowship (FGII)A "Fellowship" is an award to members of an institute or an association to people who share common beliefs or activities. The GII Fellowship is awarded to members who pursue and complete an advanced course of study in insurance or risk management and continued professional development. Through this pursuit, the members would have gained a thorough understanding of the principles and application of management of insurance sectors such as underwriting, claims, intermediaries, regulation and compliance, Takaful, risk management, finance and accounting and operations. In order to gain the Fellowship, you must earn fourteen credits at least six of which must be Level 2 credits. Therefore, once you have completed your AGII, you should then pursue three Management Development Certificates or Technical Competency Certificates that earn two Level 2 credits each. Earning creditsGII follows a simple route to qualification by awarding credits for certificates and examinations that you complete. Thus you accumulate credits to reach a higher level of membership. As has been stated above, the current requirement for AGII is eight credits from Level 1 certificates. For the Fellowship award, you need to accumulate fourteen credits (including the eight needed for Associateship). Out of the fourteen credits, six must be at Level 2. You may earn these credits from completing GII certificates choosing from the wide selection of subjects that we offer. GII recognises the importance of diversity and broadening the knowledge domain of its members. Thus we also award credits for success at examinations or courses that you complete with any one of our partner institutes. (See below for details)
GII CertificatesYour building blocks for qualification with GII is by gaining credits through a series of foundation, intermediate and advanced certificate courses in different subjects that you can pursue. Upon successfully completing the examination you will receive a certificate that you can use to demonstrate your level of knowledge to your peers as well as present and prospective employers. Each certificate is designated as a Level One or Level Two depending on the depth of learning and the type of assessment. For a detailed list of certificates please click the links below To maintain the value of your certificates, GII follows policies and procedures that assure quality in the content, delivery and examination process. Only members who pass the examination receive a certificate of completion. Gaining GII credits for non-GII examinations.GII's mission includes the provision of training for qualifications from other internationally recognised institutes who, through their offerings, contribute towards the development of human resources for our industry. GII recognises the need to enable candidates to pursue subjects of their choice that such institutes offer. In particular, through our affiliations with international partner institutes, we offer a wide variery of courses in various disciplines related to our industry focus. We are therefore awarding GII credits for candidates who pass examinations of these awarding bodies. Candidates need not have completed the diploma or qualification being pursued but must have passed the examination in the last three years.
The proviso is that, as a minimum, candidates must obtain at least four Level 1 credits from GII certificates for Associateship and four Level 2 credits for Fellowship. Thus you can combine your studies with certificates or diplomas from the above institutes and GII certificates to obtain our qualifications. Click here for a complete list of certificates or examinations from the above institutes through which you can gain GII credits. This list is not exhaustive and we may, from time to time, add other qualifications from other institutes therefore it is advisable to check with us directly by email.
